summer in the city

Before heading to Genova, we spent the summer in NYC.  Living on Riverside Drive, away from the crazy and chaos of most of the city, we spent most days relaxing in the park and playing in the many many nearby playgrounds.

Holden and I were on a search for the best playgrounds and more importantly the best swings in the city.  Although it was a tough call, we finally found (in our opinion) the best swings during our last weekend in Morningside Park.

Many days we would venture out into the city as well, especially since Holden is so fond of riding the subway.  He enjoys cabs and buses too, but the subway is definitely his favorite.

Some of our favorite adventure spots were:  the Highline and Chelsea Market, Mulberry Street library, SugarSweet Sunshine cupcake shop, vanLeeuwen ice cream (shop and trucks), discovery room at American Museum of Natural History, Karma Kids yoga, Bankstreet Bookstore storytimes, Sunday Bunday at Southside coffee shop, Cafe Grumpy, bike rides along the Hudson, Saturday night music in Riverside Park, and many others too.

Also, we visited many museums this summer.  The Whitney Museum had a Jeff Koons special exhibit (and so did Rockefeller Center).  The Brooklyn Museum was probably the highlight, with a beautiful Swoon exhibit.  And Holden really enjoyed the guitar (and all the musical instruments) exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Also, In SoHo, we saw a very special Lebbeus Woods exhibit.

Every day was a new adventure, whether we were scooting on the trails in Riverside Park or finding a new carousel to ride or a new art or bookstore to explore.  Many more adventures await us in Genova, but first - the beach!
